Cate Masters Writing from the Heart

It's Monday and you all know what that means! It's meet the author Monday. Today Cate Masters shares her latest release with us. Please make her feel welcome. Cate...take it away!

More
Every girl remembers her first love. One mention of the guy’s name can ignite vivid memories. He might be the one to whom she compares every other guy, and most pale in comparison. He was the one who shared all those “firsts” with her, all those intimate moments made all the more special because she’d never tried anything like it before. Never wanted to until she met him.

I love stories like that, don’t you? Combine it with a “second chance” theme and I’m hooked. What if you could go back and find your first love? Would you want a second chance?

If you’re like me, you were lucky enough to keep your first love. My hubby and I celebrated thirty five years together last fall. We dated for six months, but we knew the first week, I think, that this was The Big One. Now our three kids are grown, and we’re blessed with three grandboys.

Life rarely follows the path we lay out when we’re young. But the path we find ourselves on is always the best one, isn’t it? Even if we couldn’t fully envision our futures, fate manages to help us find the way.

In Homecoming, I wove in another element – returning home, another theme I love. My hero and heroine, Nick and Jennie, are both a bit damaged, and reluctant to trust their own hearts. Until they find each other again, that is. Then their hearts tell them what they already knew. :)

Here’s the blurb:

Her abusive husband finally out of her life, Jennie Mayfair arrives in her hometown to rekindle old friendships and make a new start. Jennie wants someone safe but sexy to hold her again and make her feel loved, and a surprise invitation from Madame Eve seems to be exactly what she ordered. She never expects her wish list to be filled to such sublime perfection. But how can she trust the guy who shattered her heart years ago?

Nick Spencer’s business success doesn’t keep him warm in bed, and neither did his wife, though she knew how to keep other men warm – in his own bed. When he learns his first love, Jennie, is single again, he arranges for a blind date. One night with her convinces him he’s missed too many years of happiness. He doesn’t intend to let her get away from him again. But can he convince her their past will be a solid foundation for a new future?

Decadent Publishing released Homecoming on Friday as part of its very cool 1 Night Stand series

Meet Stephanie Beck

Birthday Fools Day
by Stephanie Beck

My husband turns the big 2-9 this year—today actually. But he’s told everyone he’s 30 for the last four years. Why? Because he prefers to round up rather than actually keep track of his age.

Every year, April Fool’s Day rolls around and he has no real desire to celebrate his birthday. I, unable to fathom why a person wouldn’t want cake and presents, have always attempted a fuss for his birthday....and after 10 years together, I can honestly understand why he doesn’t bother.

Every damn year, something goes wrong.

19th birthday—the first I celebrated with him he got a shard of metal lodged in his finger. It rapidly became infected and by the end of the day he ended up in the ER.

22nd birthday—attempted to hold a birthday party for him at our first apartment. The power went out and the oven broke....within an hour of the party time.

23rd birthday—all was well (I should have known better) I set the cakes on the counter to cool before frosting. When I went to water the grass, our dog—who had never, ever shown interest in the counter in the 2 years we’d had her—ate the cakes.

24th birthday—our sweet daughter, 3 years old at the time, started telling the tale of how mom and dad were rolling around on the floor the night before, naked. Pretty sure I died, but somehow recovered to be mortally embarrassed any time I saw my in-laws for the next year.

28th birthday—he was recovering from knee surgery so spent the day doped up on the couch. The kids and I ate cupcakes.

I wish I could say those were all just April Fool’s Day jokes, but they actually happened. Now, the day is once again upon us. I went with ice cream cake from the store, a gift card and not inviting anyone over. Here’s hoping we make it through!
Enjoy your April Fool’s Day :)

All the best,
Stephanie Beck

Stephanie Beck is a full time mom, part time writer and ameture speller.

She's been writing since she was fifteen. Her first novel, "Love on the Mats" was a graphic heartwarming tale of a wrestler and a cutie coed which was lovingly edited by the c-squad basketball team on the long bus rides throughout the season. They were all sure it would be published, and it still has a home in a folder...somewhere.

Stephanie loves romance and all things romantic, heartwarming and usually funny, though a more serious piece will find its way in occasionally.

In her spare time she knits and sews, walks the dog, plays with her two wonderful daughters and her adorable son, and tries to get her husband to act out the naughty things she researches...oh the sacrifices she makes for her craft.

Meet Kate Richards

Today I'm pleased to introduce readers to the dynamic Kate Richards. Kate was one of the first authors/editors I became friends with as I started on this crazy journey. She was kind enough to host Valarie Mann and I during RT/LA, never fails to offer a sounding board or title help, and has become an invaluable asset in my life.

Kate Richards has wanted to be an author for a very long time, but only found time to begin about four years ago. She is an editor, an author, a pet owner, and a wife. Not necessarily in that order. Kate divides her time between Los Angeles and the lovely High Sierra town of Bishop, California.

Lately, she’s been traveling to quite a few book conventions for the pleasure of meeting readers, which she considers to be one of the best benefits to the job. She hopes to one day have the opportunity to travel to Tahiti for a book signing or maybe Ireland. She has also been known to conduct the occasional workshop on author/writing related topics.

Kate loves the beach and while she is not a surfer girl, she can Boogie Board with the best of them. She loves swimming and gardening and hiking but finds that she spends so many hours a day lost in her characters, it’s a challenge to get outside on a regular basis.

Connect with Kate

Her latest work is Virgin Under Ground, one of the Decadent Publishing 1Night Stand Stories, which she created along with Valerie Mann and Olivia Starke.

Blurb:
Doctorate in hand, Jane Ann Summers is ready to return to the South Seas paradise of her youth, when the director of the institute—her mother—drops a bomb. She cannot return until she experiences more of life...a social life

Determined to waste no time, Jane searches for a shortcut and discovers the 1Night Stand dating service. A single night with a Dr. Gerard, geologist…and she can go home and get on with her fascinating study of world weather trends. The only question is whether to have sex with him…after all, it would be her first  and maybe only time.

Dr. Lukas Gerard’s own field of study has shown him some alarming trends. He believes a killer earthquake may rattle the Western half of the United States in the near future. In preparation, he has converted an abandoned gold mine to a secret bunker, loaded with supplies and all the comforts of home. Only thing he needs is company in his hideaway. Unsure how to find the right companion, he turns to 1Night Stand, but neither he nor Jane are prepared for the sudden impact of one of Madame Eve’s connections.

Maybe there is more to life than science…for both of them.

Excerpt:
“I need to ask you something first.”
His brow furrowed, but he shrugged. “Okay.”
“Does Madame Eve know the location of your secret place?” Out there in the dark, with the sprinkle of stars to light the black velvet night, the reality of proceeding blindfolded into the desert with a stranger, no matter how attractive, seemed dangerous. If the answer was no, she would ask him to turn the car around and hope she wasn’t already too late.
“Yes,” he said, in a low voice. “She insisted.” When she still clutched his arm, he smiled. “I understand caution, let me show you something.” Lukas reached over her to the center console. So close, his warmth and the clean scent of soap went to her head. Hang on, Jane. Even if he is the cutest guy you’ve ever met, and smells so good.
He retrieved his cell phone and clicked to a text message. “Look at this.”
I have confirmed the location of your date and we can schedule your evening. I hope you understand the safety of my clients is paramount, yours as well as Ms. Summers. Thank you for your cooperation. M.E.
Reassured, Jane faced away from him. “Do it, then.” She closed her eyes and tried not to flinch as the soft cloth covered her face. It tightened and then his hands dropped to her shoulders.
“Okay?” His fingers rested on her collarbones, inches from her breasts. Her eyes strained, but the several folds prevented the least bit of starlight from entering.
“I can’t see a thing.” But she could still feel his touch moving down her arms, past her short sleeves, and onto bare skin. The desert wind soughed; her heart thumped in her ears. Hyperaware of the man behind her, she waited to see what he would do next.

A peek at what this prolific author has to offer.

Meet Azura Ice a.k.a. F.L. Bicknell

Please welcome F.L. Bicknell / Azura Ice to Meet the Author Monday. This complex and interesting author will take you out of this world. Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win this adorable bag and bracelet.

Mad for a Series

Written by Azura Ice a.k.a. F.L.Bicknell

“That one was so low he could have shot my sapin off!”

What’s a sapin? It’s the Azutuan word for penis, and the above dialog is one of many things the character Volund spouts off from time to time. He and Miln, who’s the mc of Sacrifices BK2, are full of quips, humorous views, and frustrated retorts. In the scene where this sentence is taken from, Venus from BK1 is trying to teach Miln and his partner, Oshki, how to shoot revolvers from the mid 1800s. When I wrote the opening scene to Sacrifices, it gave me a case of the giggles.

As readers progress through a series, one thing becomes evident: he or she will ultimately fall in love with one or two of the characters. For me, it’s Volund and Miln, but most of all Miln. He’s pure alpha male, but does he ever catch a lot of hell. I think this is why he cracks off unexpected retorts and comments. With the amount of responsibility he shoulders, he has to have a way to relieve stress. And in his next story, he finds himself in the ancient world battling hostile Amazon women and one in particular who… Whoops! Gotta save that info for the book. {winks}

But seriously, in both books, there’s great humor. Venus is always correcting her two men, as well as Miln and Oshki, on their English, and Oshki resents the fact the threesome seem to always be making love—the racket often keeps him awake. The humor in these books ranges from falling out of a tree stand to bitching about the “noise” to the difference between female and woman, which irks Venus to no end.

When I discover a wonderful series, I can’t wait until the next book comes out because I always grow attached to the underdog or the one who provides comedic relief. I guess that’s why I enjoy writing series; I get just as attached some of my own characters. These special people make us all mad for a series. What will he or she do next? How will she escape the villain? Will the hero get to her in time?

In Sacrifices, Miln is faced with a really big question: is it lust or love that he and Oshki share? The dilemma tears him up, and as a result, he’s forced to do much soul-searching. I really enjoyed developing Miln’s character, and I hope you’ll read Sacrifices and fall in love with him, too.

Sky Streamers – Book Two

Blurb:

Miln and Oshki travel to the year 1847 where they track down Randle Nyerscot, a potential killer, but their journey into the past isn’t the lovers’ getaway they hoped it would be. Miln soon realizes there’s trouble in their historical paradise. It’s his duty to protect others, but his new, much-younger mate insists their love should always come first, setting them at odds with one another.

With the help of a local, Miln discovers an orphanage held hostage and a killer injecting victims with the Bone Eater virus. Forced to make drastic decisions, he must fight for everyone’s lives to save future Earth. Can he make amends with Oshki? Or will Miln be forced to choose duty over love once more?

Brief Excerpt:

“Please, fierce one. Let us be together tonight.”
Desire surged through him. Oh how he wanted Oshki, wanted to hear his partner’s lusty shouts filling their chamber, but…he couldn’t. He didn’t dare. Tapio was crafty, and it wouldn’t surprise him to discover surveillance kerks attached to their possessions or even craftily woven in their clothes. It was just too soon.
“Well?” He smoothed his other hand down Miln’s bare arm.
“I do not want you angry with me, nor do I want to hurt you.” Worry prickled his conscience. He stepped back and stalked across the chamber to a long, padded bench with a back on it. He stared at the opposite wall, its surface a dreadful gray. He much preferred the vivid colors of Azutu. “It is too soon. If we are together physically, we run the chance of being caught.”
Oshki’s deep, rolling chuckle wrapped around him, inspiring more desire to course through his veins. If only his lover truly knew how much he needed him.
“By the Twelve Galaxies, how would Tapio even know? We are millions of telens away from the Ruling Body of Planets.”
“Through kerks, that is how.” That one simple sentence nearly choked him.
“You are serious?” Shock laced Oshki’s voice. “You actually believe Tapio would have had someone attach kerks to our belongings? Are we that much of a concern to him that he would track us all the way to Earth?”
Keeping his back to him, Miln shrugged. He couldn’t bear to turn around and see the stunned look he knew was on his mate’s face. “He is a controller and he hates us.”
“But we would need a kerkviaa to detect them, if there are any at all.”
“I know,” Miln replied.
“Are you not making assumptions?”
He shook his head. “Tapio suspected all along that we were in love. Have you forgotten security nearly caught us the first time we consummated our union? What makes you think he would not keep track of us here, too?”
“I do not believe it!”
The sudden, agonized shout startled him. He flinched and then slowly faced his mate whose eyes blazed bright silver.
Oshki breathed heavily through his nose, his mouth a firm, grim line. “You are afraid!” Both fists clenched as his sides, he yelled, “You allow your fear to rule your life—our lives! Why must you always push me away?”
The worst was happening right in front of him and he was at a loss how to avoid the disaster.

Meet Heather Long

Please welcome the very talented Heather Long to Meet the Author Monday.

More
More
Heather’s love affair with books began at a very young age. Taking journeys around the globe and across the stars were available with just the turn of the page. Her affection with the written word deepened as she got older. Becoming an author seemed a natural progression, she’s still courting the written word, but now she takes the lead on it.

Fun Facts about Heather
More

More
She writes in multiple genres including:
·        Military Romance (Always a Marine)
·        Contemporary Romance
·        Urban Fantasy (Earth Witches Aren’t Easy)
·        Paranormal Romance (Into the Spotlight)
·        Paranormal Historical Western Romance (Fevered Hearts)
·        Romantic Suspense (The Fortunate Buddha)
·        Erotic Romance (Forbidden Legacy)

More

At varying times in her history she dreamed of working as an investigative journalist, a clinical psychologist, a pilot, an astronaut, a teacher, and an attorney.  All of these contributed to her desire to write—she wanted to help others and touch lives as the books she read growing up touched hers.

She’s an animal enthusiast, and is often teased about her “straydar” for all the stray and lost dogs she’s found and either given a home to or returned to their owners (if she could find them).

More
She started a reader group called Fevered Fanatics on Facebook for her paranormal western historical romance series—which funnily enough began as an idea for a novella that has since grown to include four full-length titles with three more planned.

When it comes to her favorite books, it’s the characters that bring her back to read them over and over.

About Heather's Marines
Writing Always a Marine is the realization of two dreams—a series that lets her return again and again to familiar faces while focusing on the service of our men and women in arms.

Discover more about Heather and the Always a Marine series:

The eighth installment in the Always a Marine anthology in 1Night Stand (1NS)line for Decadent Publishing. 1Night Stand is the business name of an exclusive online dating service run by Madame Evangeline who provides her clients with a possibility of happily ever after or happily for now.

Meet Author Jessica E. Subject

One of my favorite authors and an outstanding woman to become acquainted with is the dynamic Jessica E. Subject. Everywhere Jessica appears she brings a smile and sparkle. It is great to have you here today, Jessica.

Thank you so much, Becca, for inviting me on your blog! It’s a pleasure to be here.

Hello everyone! I guess I’m here to talk about myself, which is something I really don’t like doing. But, this is Meet-the-Author, so let’s get started.

For those who have never heard of me before, I write romance that is generally either science fiction or contemporary. My first published title was Celestial Seduction, a 1Night Stand story, and my most recent releases are Accidental Romance and Made For Her. In my stories, I like to explore the idea of love not being limited by boundaries. I’ve written characters with Alopecia Areata, acid burns to their face, amputations, and have included aliens and clones. Because I believe that everyone in the universe deserves a happily ever after. My stories range from sweet to erotica, so there is something for everyone.

While I’ve been writing stories, and creating lives of characters in my head ever since I can remember, it wasn’t until I was on maternity leave with my second child that I started writing in the hopes of publication. At the time, my daughter was in kindergarten, and absolutely hated the idea of reading. She’s one of those kids that if she can’t comprehend things the first time, she gets so frustrated. A chip off the old block. LOL Anyway, I thought if I wrote a book about something she was interested in, she might actually want to read.
It worked. She now reads above her grade level, and in a second language. She loves reading, and when asked what she wanted for Christmas this year, her answer was always “books.” Though some relatives had a hard time understanding why that’s all she would ask for.

And I kept writing. But my stories were no longer for children. I wrote about superheroes that turned into aliens without any super powers, and falling in love with people from Earth, or just having sex with them. It was almost like therapy for me, as I was terrified of aliens coming to Earth. The fear came about after watching the movie Signs, and living in the country surrounded by corn fields. But my writing helped me to get over that fear, and I haven’t stopped. I don’t plan to, either.

Meet the Author Monday Returns!

First guests are LJ Garland and Debbie Gould, whose talents and creativity make them stand out among the crowd. Please make them feel welcome.

L.J. Garland:
Though born and raised in the south, L.J. Garland has lived on both the east and west coasts. She adores traveling, the latest adventures added to her Bucket List: Machu Pichu and Australia’s Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef.
Married to her best friend for over twenty years, she spends her time home schooling three rambunctious boys, editing in the epub industry, and writing stories that she hopes catches her readers’ imaginations as much as the characters and plotlines captivate her. In her spare time (what there is of it LOL), she has a multitude of hobbies, including building archery equipment from scratch and creating stained glass. She has a passion for anything that goes Boom! …from fireworks to high-powered combat rifles…it’s all good. She and her husband are both rated helicopter pilots and spent their 10th anniversary flying cross-country from east to west coast…an adventure she highly recommends.

Debbie Gould:
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of two Debbie and her mother moved to New Jersey, spending many happy years on her grandparents' horse farm. You'll sometimes find this setting as a backdrop in her work.
As a teenager, she and her mother found a new home in Vermont, where she currently resides. With a daughter in the Air Force (along with Debbie's six-year-old grandson), and two sons working for the family Well Drilling business, Debbie now shuffles her time between a full time job as a nurse and her writing career.
About seven years ago, while looking at over three hundred treasured books lining her shelves, she realized there was a multitude of stories of her own clamoring for release. Since then, she's seriously persevered in keeping the keyboard in constant motion.

Together:
L.J. Garland and Debbie Gould have been writing together for years...so much so, that they've reached the point where they finish each other's sentences. Which is great, because it saves time. They love brainstorming new ways to torture their characters and hope readers enjoy their stories. Find out what's in the works at their shared blog, Garland and Gould.

EXCERPT:
“Look, I’m not gonna lie to you.” He loosened his hold on her while he perused her face, settling on her mouth. “I wasn’t sure about this one-night thing to start with, but after seeing you…well, I can definitely follow through. No problem.” He shifted his attention to her face, the naked heat swirling in his baby blues causing her breath to catch. “But after what all you told me, I want you to know I get it. We can play this thing any way you want. Fast. Slow. Or I can just hold you.” He trailed his fingers up and down her arms, sending delicious tingles along her skin. “Though I’ll admit, that’s not my first choice.”
She stared at him. God, he was such a gentleman. Without hesitating, she lifted onto her toes, wrapped her arms around his neck, crushed her mouth against his, and…holy crap, what a kiss! Her pulse jumped, her head spun. A fire sparked deep inside her, and her breath caught at the passion winding through her. She didn’t know what she’d been expecting exactly, but not anything like this.
Before she melted into a puddle at his feet, she broke the kiss and gazed up at him. “Does that answer your question?”
A sexy grin curved his lips. “Yes, ma’am.”

EXCERPT:
“I thought we were on the same page here, Calista.”
Bright gold eyes turned toward him. “I thought we were, too.”
“Good.” He trailed his fingers over her collarbone and down to her chest where he drew lazy circles over her damp, bronze skin. Damn if she hadn’t ridden him like a female jockey. Got them both across the finish line, too. If only she’d had a whip—
“I just don’t understand why we can’t go out to a restaurant and have an actual meal together.” She sighed, her breasts rising and falling enticingly. “It’s not like it’s a big deal.”
Not a big deal? One meal turns into two, and next thing, she’s picking out fucking china. Hell no. Ben gave her his special smile—the one that more than one girl had admitted made her panties wet—and ground his pelvis against her thigh. “C’mon, baby. We’ve had two weeks of fun, why ruin what we have by getting dressed? Le’me order us a pizza.”
“It’s been ten days.” She shoved him away and sat up.
He nodded. “Yes, we’ve been eating way too much pizza. Chinese. How about Moo Shu Pork?”
Scooting her long legs over the side of the bed, she perched on the edge of the mattress with her back to him, shoulders hunched. “So, what is it? Do I embarrass you or something?”
Ben scrubbed his hands over his face. This was exactly why he didn’t care for relationships. Games, wordplay, the struggle for control, insecurities—all of it a waste of time. Amid that were about three hours of hot, sweaty sex—sometimes more if the girl he was with understood the score.
Calista did not.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You’re gorgeous.” He moved closer to her, the thin sheet sliding away and the cool air wafting over his heated skin. As he reached to brush her long black hair to the side, a shudder coursed down his back. “And the tat on your shoulder makes you sexier than ever.” He trailed his fingers over his work, the tribal-style bird he’d inked two weeks—no, ten days ago. “My little sparrow.”
She twisted toward him. “So, you think of me as something you can keep caged?”
He bowed his head and squeezed his eyes closed. Damn it. Here we go. “No. Nobody’s caged. No one’s controlling anyone else.” He lifted his gaze to meet hers. “That’s the point.”
Her jaw tightened, and she swallowed. “So, all I am is a good time, right?”
“You sure sounded as though you were having a good time when you were riding me like there was no tomorrow.”
Her expression darkened, and tears welled in her eyes. Aw, hell

EXCERPT:
“Moment?” He raised his eyebrows, tried for a surprised expression. “We were having a moment? Where was I?”
A husky laugh escaped Abby’s lips. She gave him a playful shove, but he caught her hand, his fingers encircling her delicate wrist. With great care, he bowed his head and pressed his lips to the center of her palm. Her sharp intake of air told him she liked it.
“Is this the moment you were referring to?” He kissed her wrist. “Or this?” His mouth grazed along her skin, up the side of her neck to the tender point below her ear.
“Mmm.” She shivered.
He inhaled, reveled in her unique scent. A mixture of spicy vanilla and exotic flowers invaded his senses and sent the room slowly spinning. Primal lust roared through him, demanded he possess her in a rush of carnal passion.
But Ethan resisted.
Intent on enticing Abby into a wild, heated frenzy, he trailed the tip of his tongue along her throat. Her pulse hammered beneath his ardent attention, and he reveled in her response. His fingers slid over her supple skin. One hand sought the silky tresses adorning her head while the other coaxed her legs across his lap and then slipped around her waist.
He pulled back, stared into her lovely face. Eyelids fluttering, she sighed in his arms. When she looked at him, desire burned bright in her eyes. His heart stuttered at the sight, and hot need rushed to his groin.
“Abby.” Her name rolled from his tongue in a mix of desperation and lust. A voracious hunger to taste every inch of her body washed over him. The urge to kiss the small of her back, to run his tongue along her skin, delving and dipping into her secret, sensitive places, all but overwhelmed him. “Tell me to stop. If you’re not ready, honey, tell me to stop right now and by all that’s holy, I will. But you need to know how much I want you right now.”
