What was the best or worst romantic gesture a boy/girlfriend, spouse, or lover ever made for you? What made it special, odd, or otherwise?
My hubby has not a romantic bone in his body. He tried to slip my engagement ring on while I slept, and although it was probably the least inspiring way to handle a proposal, his face when I woke up and caught him was beyond endearing. I've learned to find romance not in his words but in the way he takes my hand for no reason at all, the way he does the dishes or deals with a problem without hesitation, or the way he's always there when I need a shoulder. Though my heroes are usually outspoken, I would never trade my DH’s quiet love for fancy words or roses.

I think it's so sweet that he tried to slip the ring on while you were asleep. My dh was also nervous and had to drink a LOT to propose, he isn't good with emotions, but he has stood by me through a whole lot of stuff that most wouldn't. He tolerates my multiple pets and relatives. We met online and he said, right then, it was destiny, but overall he's better at being there than gestures. 9 years next week, I think I have to keep him now, he tells me the warantee is expired and Vermont won't take him back.
ReplyDeleteToo sweet, Kate. There's a lot to be said for the quiet type, expired warentee or no. 23.5 years here - first date was my graduation party. Wow, I am so old! ;-) Thanks for dropping by.
ReplyDeleteI am lucky My husband is usually very romantic for our anniversary this year he wrote in dry erase marker a poem on the bathroom Mirror. BUT he occasionally makes some bluppers his biggest would ahve been the year he gave me a Samurai Sword for my birthday. I cried... Then a few weeks later he asked me why I didn't do anything with it. I actually had to ask him what exactly he wanted me to do with it.
ReplyDeleteBTW I think Becca your proposal stroy is very sweet.
Too funny! What exactly did he expect you to do with a Samari Sword?
ReplyDeleteThanks. I thought his proposal was pretty sweet too.
Well since I'm single and a disaster in the romance department (I've dubbed myself the one date wonder) the most romantic thing a man has done for me was when I was I was eight years old. I went to bible school with the neighbors and their 3 boys. One morning they show up and their 5 year old jumps out and hands be a bouquet of wildflowers. Apparently he'd jumped out of the car all down the county road we live on, and had picked the flowers for me, while getting full of thorns and chiggers. This is the same boy who I hated (he chased me with his boogers--I mean yuck!)
ReplyDeleteA guy can buy you a dozen roses (as they've done for me) but having someone put that much thought and effort into it means a lot more to me :)
Who could resist a guy willing to risk chiggers and thorns just to pick you flowers? That might be one of the sweetest stories I've ever heard.
ReplyDeleteYears back my hubby used to send me flowers at work. I worked in a factory and had to go to the security desk to get them..which was a lot . the security guards and my boss ( who were all men ). said next time they were going to send my hubby flowers and tell him to stop. he was making them look bad! Lol.. needless to say he started sending to home after that..
ReplyDeleteOf course a bad one would be the Valentines day after he proposed we were fighting and at my parents he walked in threw the box across the room said here catch..it was my diamond ring..grr..lol men gotta love them!
I like when dh does the 'just because' thing. One day he walks into my work place and gives me this package. It is a glass vase with a beautiful bouquet of 12 red roses and greenery. He had fixed the owner's computer at the flower shop and in lieu of taking payment he asked her to make up a bouquet for me. I was stunned, happy and delighted. How thoughtful!!!
ReplyDeleteChristy and Robyn what sweethearts you have. I love just because gifts - well I would love them if I got them once in a while. Does putting gas in my car count? lol - and I adore flowers at work. Then while I'm working I feel like he's there too. Thanks for sharing ladies.
